June 2010 NPDs drop — Red Dead Redemption wins, Toy Story 3 & Transformers make top 20 UPDATED
The NPD Group has their monthly video game sales report for the month of June 2010 up and it’s about what you’d expect — Red Dead Redemption holds the top spot with a slew of Nintendo titles not far behind. Turned out to be a tough month for hardware sales, but what do you expect with Move and Kinect on the horizon and not much hardware coming out in the meantime?
UPDATE: As per usual, the NPD has released the top 20 ranking sellers the day after the initial hardware and software lists. Transformers: War for Cybertron had a respectable debut for the Xbox 360, while both HD versions of FIFA World Cup saw a boost thanks to the popular soccer tournament. The other Nintendo-housed version of Toy Story 3 also landed on the list, likely due to the June release of the film. Here’s the entire NPD retail rankings for June 2010 :
1- Red Dead Redemption (360)
2- Super Mario Galaxy 2
3- Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
4- New Super Mario Bros. Wii
5- Just Dance
6- Wii Fit Plus (with Balance Board)
7- Toy Story 3 (Nintendo DS)
8- UFC 2010: Undisputed (360)
9- LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Wii)
10- UFC 2010: Undisputed (PS3)
11- Pokemon Soulsilver
12- Transformers: War for Cybertron (360)
13- New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo DS)
14- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360)
15- 2010 FIFA World Cup: South Africa (360)
16- 2010 FIFA World Cup: South Africa (PS3)
17- Mario Kart Wii
18- Pokemon Heartgold
19- Toy Story 3 (Wii)
20- Wii Sports Resort
Note that Super Mario Galaxy jumped from third place to second despite selling less than it did in May (down to 548,900 from 563,000).
Here’s what happened hardware-wise:
Nintendo DS — 510.7K
Xbox 360 — 451.7K
Wii — 422.5K
PlayStation 3 — 304.8K
PSP — 121K
Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg hopped on Twitter earlier about the 360’s success:

And that’s all the NPD for this month. See you again in August for July’s numbers.
