EA may have just given the world its first glimpse of the returning Alice, but GamePro got an even deeper look at the long-awaited sequel. Read on to get a look at the cover of the September issue, featuring Alice: Madness Returns, as well as a preview of the other content you’ll find in the magazine.
The September issue of GamePro magazine, shown to the right, is shipping to subscribers this week and will land on newsstands at the end of the month. The cover story is for a sequel that many fans have been clamoring almost a decade for — Alice: Madness Returns.
GamePro learned about the game’s development by traveling thousands of miles to Shanghai to visit the team at Spicy Horse, led by famed developer and twisted fairytale creator American McGee. In the article, GamePro talked to McGee about how his young and foreign team is working on a triple-A title for a major U.S. publisher. The article’s author, Will Herring was able to check out a sizable amount of the game’s disturbing new imagery, which he provides in full detail. In addition to the in-depth 14-page preview, Herring also penned a two-page Alice timeline that chronicles the famous fairytale from its origins in 1865 to this year’s Tim Burton retelling.
Coming out of E3 2010, GamePro was able to talk to some of the most noteworthy architects behind PlayStation Move and Xbox Kinect. To accompany their thoughts on the upcoming motion control war, we’ve rounded up the dozens of games that may make or break each accessories’ launch. Zynga’s biggest product launch to date, Frontierville, is also given a deeper look, as we talk to game’s lead developer, Brian Reynolds — a man you may know from his contributions to major PC franchises like Civilization and Rise of Nations. Other features in the September issue include deeper looks into the effect that anonymity has on online gaming, as well as video game glitches, and how some of the biggest games of all time were almost derailed by simple little bugs.
The September issue also marks the debut of GamePro’s new reviews section. With the internet providing instant reactions to recent releases, we’ve decided to dedicate the section to examining the impact that today’s top games have been making amongst critics, fans, and developers alike.
