EA Sports let us know this morning that they think Spain will win the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, based on a game simulation from the engine behind EA Sports’ 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa video game. Here’s what else they predict:

  • World Champion: Spain
  • World Cup Final: Spain 3 Brazil 1
  • 1st team to be eliminated: South Africa
  • Golden Boot winner: David Villa (Spain), 7 goals
  • Golden Ball winner: Kaka (Brazil)

And if just now you’re thinking “That’s stupid — a video game can’t predict a real life event,” remember that EA Sports was right about this year’s Super Bowl using their Madden engine.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa tourney kicks off (sorry) June 11.

UPDATE: Part of EA’s prediction still has a shot at reality with Spain advancing to the World Cup Final after defeating Germany today 1-0. Brazil got knocked out in the Quarterfinals late last week by the Netherlands who will face Spain this Sunday, July 11 at 2:30pm EST.
