EA celebrates new Salt Lake City office, asks governor for tax break
EA’s new studio in Salt Lake City, Utah got going over three months ago, but only just now celebrated its grand opening with government officials and neighboring businesses invited into the studio for a look at games and Hasbro toy. It’s as good a time as any to ask the governor for a tax break, right?
As reported by local publication Desert News, EA government affairs director Craig Hagan stated that EA was “not competing with traditional brick-and-mortar business in Main Street,” and therefore needed financial assistance to help them compete “against other digital media companies across the world.”
According to unidentified members of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, there are some tax incentives available for businesses, but EA decided not to use any of them. Unidentified legislators at the grand opening party also told the Desert News that there were no plans to start an incentive program in the technology sector EA occupies.
Many states across the U.S. do have tax break for technology companies — and as far as GamePro knows, EA has studios placed in most if not all of them.
