BioWare and EA announce Dragon Age 2
Making good on the @dragonage Twitter promise that “2morrow will be a great day for BioWare fans,” Electronic Arts and BioWare have announced an official sequel to last year’s critically acclaimed Darkspawn-slaying role-playing game in the newly unveiled Dragon Age 2 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
Set to make a vast departure from it’s 2009 predecessor in both tone and style, Dragon Age 2 will drop the “Origins” aspect of the original in favor of a Mass Effect-esque approach to a single story-defined male or female human protagonist.
According to the game’s press release, “Dragon Age 2 thrusts players into the role of Hawke, a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age. Known to be a survivor of the Blight and the Champion of Kirkwall, the legend around Hawke’s rise to power is shrouded in myth and rumor. Featuring an all-new story spanning 10 years, players will help tell that tale by making tough moral choices, gathering the deadliest of allies, amassing fame and fortune, and sealing their place in history. The way you play will write the story of how the world is changed forever.” The release goes on to detail a new, “more responsive” combat system, improved graphics, and a “dynamic story” that will offer up as-of-yet unseen locations, characters, and chapters in the expansive Dragon Age lore.
Dragon Age 2 is currently slated for a March 2011 release on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and is available for pre-order over at the official EA Store website.
