Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy XIV release date, but not 3D
A public relations email sent our way reveals both the release date and the technical specs for Final Fantasy XIV on PC — but nothing about the hypothetical 3D support. The game hits shelves for everyone on September 30, but those who spring for the Collector’s Edition get it September 22.
The Collector’s Edition goes for $74.99 and comes with lots of little freebies like a making-of DVD and an in-game item called the Onion Helm. The $49.99 regular edition get free gameplay for 30 days and a Garlond Goggles in-game item if they pre-registered.
Here are the tech specs to run Final Fantasy XIV:
Operating System: Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista 32bit / 64bit, Windows 7 32bit / 64bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (2.0GHz), AMD Athlon™ X2 (2.0GHz)
Memory: Windows XP — 1.5GB or higher, Windows Vista / Windows 7 — 2GB or higher
HDD/SSD Space: Install — 15GB or more, Download — Space on the hard drive where My Documents is located should be 6GB or more
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 series or higher with VRAM 512MB or more, ATI Radeon HD 2900 series or higher with VRAM 512MB or more
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible sound card (DirectX 9.0c or higher)
Internet Connections: Broadband Internet connection or higher
Resolution: 1280 x 720 or higher; 32bit or higher
DirectX: DirectX 9.0c
There’s still time for Square Enix to surprise us with 3D either later in the development cycle or with a patch at some post-release date. We saw a little bit of it in action at E3, and heard talk that the game could be Move-supported. Would either feature make you more likely to buy it?
The next beta phase of Final Fantasy XIV starts in July. Get details on how to participate here.
